Review of the Agroecological Landscape Resilience Plan (ALRP)

A discussion on the final draft of the Agroecological Landscape Resilience Plan (ALRP) for the Agricultural Hot Spot Area in Monaragala District was held on the 13th at the Uva Management Development Institute (UMDI), Pelgahathenna. The programme focused on reviewing the ALRP as a Climate-Smart Intervention, assessing its relevance, technical soundness, and alignment with climate resilience objectives under the Climate Smart Irrigated Agriculture Project (CSIAP).

Organization and Leadership
The event was organized by the Deputy Project Director’s Office of CSIAP in Uva Province, under the leadership of Deputy Project Director Mr. D. M. L. Bandaranayake. The session provided a structured platform for stakeholders to collectively examine the proposed strategies and implementation framework of the ALRP.

Participation of Key Stakeholders
Representatives from relevant implementing agencies, along with CSIAP specialists and project officers, participated in the discussion. Their engagement ensured that the plan was reviewed from multiple perspectives, including policy, technical feasibility, field applicability, and institutional coordination.

Technical Review and Feedback
During the discussion, participants offered technical insights, observations, and recommendations to further refine the plan. Emphasis was placed on strengthening agroecological approaches, climate adaptation measures, and integration with ongoing development interventions in the Monaragala Agricultural Hot Spot Area.

 Objectives of the ALRP
The Agroecological Landscape Resilience Plan aims to enhance climate resilience by promoting sustainable land and water management practices, biodiversity conservation, and climate-smart agricultural techniques. The plan seeks to address climate risks while improving productivity and ecological stability across the landscape.

 Expected Outcomes and Long-Term Benefits
Once finalized, the ALRP is expected to serve as a strategic framework to guide climate-resilient agricultural development in Monaragala District. Its implementation is anticipated to support long-term sustainability, improve farmer livelihoods, and strengthen the resilience of local communities to climate variability and change.
